物の哀れ

(Mono No Aware)

This series explores the beauty of impermanence through delicate, ethereal portraits that exist on the edge of visibility—interrupted by a hazy screen, prolonged exposures, and soft, shifting forms. The images evoke the quiet passage of time, reminiscent of early photographic portraits, where the sitter’s presence lingers just beyond clarity.

Presented as intimate, finely printed books and small prints, the work invites a slower, more contemplative engagement. The use of layered materials—such as tracing paper—acts as a veil, delaying the encounter with each portrait and mirroring the fleeting, transient nature of memory itself.

By embracing the uncertainty of the image, Mono No Aware asks the viewer to pause, to look again, and to find meaning in the ephemeral.
