About
Paul Rideout (b. 1986, South East England) is a photographic artist based in Manchester, UK. His practice explores themes of impermanence, place, and perception — often through long-term, observational work.
Rooted in walking, repetition, and an interest in overlooked urban spaces, Rideout’s images move between street photography, abstraction, and fictional narrative. Drawing on cinematic influences, music, and literary references, he constructs quiet visual worlds that invite viewers to reconsider the familiar.
With a background in commercial retouching and portraiture, his work maintains a refined aesthetic, but leans into stillness, atmosphere, and ambiguity. Whether capturing a single chimney at night or mapping the transformation of a city loop over time, his photographs reflect on what it means to witness — and re-witness — a place.
Day to day, Rideout balances his creative practice with freelance work as a retoucher and portrait photographer. He is currently completing an MA in Photography at Manchester Metropolitan University.
